In the spring of 2020, just before the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Stride Tech Medical Inc. was accepted into the Boomtown HealthTech Accelerator program. At the time, Stride Tech Medical consisted of three co-founders, Humsini Acharya, Tim Visos-Ely, and Andrew Plum The team applied to Boomtown to learn from industry experts and help a team of engineers learn from experienced professionals to launch their newly formed company. The team was particularly interested in Boomtown’s program due to their partnership with COPIC, a medical liability insurance provider, who would become a key strategic partner, providing expertise in the HealthTech industry to Boomtown’s selected startups.

“We’re thrilled to be partnered with COPIC, a nationally recognized leader in patient safety and risk management,” said Tom Base, managing director of Boomtown’s HealthTech Accelerator. “COPIC’s expert advice and resources will prove invaluable to our efforts to develop startups through this accelerator.”

From the beginning, COPIC has embraced ideals to ensure a stable medical liability environment, maintain access to health care, reduce adverse outcomes, and put the interests of improving health care first.

“At COPIC, our primary goal is to support medical professionals who face ever-changing challenges and help them deliver the best patient care possible,” said Ted J. Clarke, M.D., chairman and CEO of COPIC. “We are confident this partnership with Boomtown will allow us to creatively explore options that have the potential to provide tremendous benefit to the medical community through innovation that can’t be found in traditional healthcare channels,” he added.

Boomtown has invested in 98 companies since its founding in 2014. Of those, 86 percent are in operation, 71 percent are generating revenue and the companies have raised more than $70 million in capital.

During the 12-week program, the StrideTech Team received a crash course in topics such as data security and interoperability, HIPAA compliance, regulatory strategy, intellectual property, business development, corporate innovation, venture capital, branding, marketing, finance, legal, and investment operations at the highest levels. Outfitted with a team of advisors and experts in each one of these areas, StrideTech developed their business strategy and built a robust business plan and pitch. The program culminated in a Demo Day, in which Co-Founder Tim Visos-Ely gave a 3-minute business pitch, hosted by none other than Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran!

“Growing up I would watch Shark Tank and daydream about being on the show and pitching to the sharks. So when Barbara Corcoran hosted our Demo Day and Stride Tech Medical came out of her mouth, I was thrilled. It was a great way to end a fantastic program.”

The benefits of being a part of the Boomtown HealthTech Accelerator program have continued to this day. One of the mentors during the program, George Douaire, ended up joining the team full time and is now StrideTech’s President and CEO. During our current equity crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine, Boomtown helped spread the word, sending our campaign page to their alumni email lists and creating social posts. Stride Tech Medical appreciates the enormous learning experience and continued support Boomtown gives to their alumni companies.
